Mexicali Leads National Aerospace Strategy with Launch of FEMIA ’s RECOCO Initiative

On May 29, 2025, Mexicali, Baja California was proud to serve as the host city for the national launch of RECOCO (REgister, COnozco, COnecto), an initiative spearheaded by the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA). RECOCO aims to strengthen the aerospace sector in Mexico through the RENAERO (Registro Nacional Aeroespacial) — a comprehensive registry designed to map, identify, and connect capabilities across the country’s aerospace ecosystem.

Why Mexicali?

Mexicali was chosen as the launch site for this first edition due to its strategic position as Mexico’s aerospace capital. Baja California accounts for 24% of the national aerospace industry, and Mexicali alone is home to more than 130 aerospace and defense companies — including global leaders like Honeywell, Collins Aerospace, Safran, and GKN.

The event was hosted at CETYS Universidad Campus Mexicali and showcased impressive participation and outcomes:

  • 100 B2B meetings held

  • 27 visiting aerospace suppliers

  • Participants from 7 Mexican cities

  • 4 host manufacturing centers

A Booming Aerospace Market in Mexico

In 2024, the Mexican aerospace industry grew by nearly 14%, reaching a market size of USD $11.2 billion. Mexico continues to solidify its role as a global aerospace manufacturing hub:

  • Ranked among the top 5 countries worldwide in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) for aerospace

  • Now the 12th largest exporter of aerospace components globally

  • 80% of parts produced in Mexico are exported to the U.S., while 20% go to Europe

This growth reaffirms that Mexicali is at the forefront of Mexico’s aerospace expansion, offering unmatched value through its talent, location, supply chain, and institutional support.

Strengthening Connections: Business + Community

Following the official business event, Mexicali EDC hosted a networking reception with the participation of our local business community and key aerospace stakeholders from across Mexico. The atmosphere was charged with collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision for continued growth in the region.

We are thrilled to see how the aerospace industry in Mexicali continues to expand, and we remain committed to supporting companies through connection, promotion, and strategic support.
