Mexicali is well connected within Baja California, United States and the rest of Mexico. Federal Highway allows ground access to other locations nationwide. Mexicali has easy access to the suppliers and customers in the United States through a wide network of highways and freeways.

Airports
Mexicali’s airport has daily flights to the interior of Mexico. Neighbor airports of Tijuana CBX (Cross Border Xpress), San Diego and even Los Angeles offer a wide range of options of air travel. In addition, Mexicali is close to Imperial Valley’s airport just 15 minutes away from the border, which operates commercial flights to U.S. cities including San Diego and Ontario, CA.
Seaports
There are two commercial seaports within 3 hours of Mexicali. On the Mexican side is Ensenada, Mexico and on the U.S. side is San Pedro, Long Beach. Both of these ports are hubs of international transportation.
Railways
Mexicali has an extensive railroad network in a joint venture between the Mexican Ferromex and the American Union Pacific. It allows companies to transport their products and goods both further south into Mexico and north into the United States.
United States – México
The strategic location of Mexicali for facilitating international commerce is outstanding. Because it is a well-established and well-traveled corridor, border crossing logistics are in place that makes customs operations smooth and efficient.
There are a total of three U.S./Mexico border crossing points conveniently located to Mexicali. Two of them are immediately adjacent to Mexicali, with the additional one being just to the east. Of these three, one is a cargo crossing with the other being car and pedestrian crossings.
Water
The city has an abundant and continuous water supply guaranteed by the Colorado River with 1,850 million m 3 per year. In fact Mexicali is actually the source of water for a number of cities in the state including Tijuana and Tecate.
Electricity
Power in Mexicali is generated from the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Plant, the 2 nd largest in the world, making blackouts unheard of in the area. The system is connected to Intergen and Sempra Energy and produces 2,285 Megawatts in one of the cleanest and most efficient power plants in North America.
Gas
Natural gas is a fuel with many advantages. It’s clean, because it prevents emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxide thereby contributing to a better quality of environment.
It’s safe because it’s lighter than air and consequently it dissipates into the air without any dangerous accumulations of gas. ECOGAS Mexicali is the result of a joint venture between the Californian companies Pacific Enterprises and Enova with the Mexican regional company Proxima Gas. Together, they have over 200 years of experience in natural gas distribution, serving 5.7 million customers from Los Angeles to Calexico. The consortium has been awarded the first two geographic zones that the federal government bid through its Energy Regulatory Commission.
